Egg Recipes
A co-worker of Eric's has given us 2 dozen eggs from her hens and ducks. So I'm looking for egg recipes. I posted a plea here on [livejournal.com profile] justhere4food or you could add your favorite egg recipes to this post. Thanks!

Sucky Housewife: A Blog Idea
So I was reading an article in a magazine where they're talking about OMG GERMS. For example, you should wash your counters before and after you use them and spray them down with a bleach solution at least once a day. No one does that! So I joked on twitter that I should start a blog about that. It wouldn't be just making fun of these sorts of articles but it would be about realistic homemaking. I'm a housewife but I'm not a natural at it. So many of us are raising kids or working a job and have to come home at the end of the day and clean the house. Even if you don't have kids or a partner, you still gotta clean every once in a while. So I kinda wanna to do a blog on my attempts to clean the house without getting OCD about it (and well take as many shortcuts as possible!) . Oh and make fun of all of those articles about how we SHOULD do something. Problem is, I've never actually done a blog. I barely LJ as you can see. I don't want to go through a bunch of hoops or spend money we don't have for something I might get bored doing. So what I'm looking for is basically advice, help and stories(especially since I don't have kids to clean up after and have no clue. I assume they throw up on the rug like cats do occasionally but other than that . . .) Especially anyone who wants to jump on this crazy train with me.  I know alot of you are private, but I think you can certainly write something like this without giving away too many private details.
Please help! :) If the response isn't there, then hey, it's just an idea.

Anyone been to Austin?
We're going next month for our 16th anniversary (we tend to vacation on our anniversary or my birthday, not sure why exactly).  Any must sees? We'll be going down on a Friday and leaving on Sunday.  We're gonna go to the Dr. Pepper museum in Waco on our way down (shh, don't tell Pepsi!) and Sat will probably be pretty full, we're going to the Capitol, the Texas History Museum and probably the LBJ library. I find Presidential libraries interesting. The Lincoln one is amazing and the Hoover one was lots more interesting then I ever though it could be (course they had a special exhibit on RT 66 or something when we were there, so that might have been it).  Sunday is open, we figured we'd just absorb a bit of culture.

RIP Gizmo

We had to put Gizmo down today.  Some of you might know that he had been sick off and on for years. He was 14 or there abouts, he was a rescue so noone was certain. In the past he's survived a heart valve problem, a respiratory infection and thyroid surgery. His health started really breaking down this winter as his weight started to drop. He weighed 11 pounds in December and was down to 9 pounds when we moved in May.  Today when I took him to the vet he weighed 7 pounds. He'd started refusing to eat and cried in pain constantly. The vet said that she could run more tests on him, maybe force fluids down him and give him pain killers (he had some apparently major pain in his hips, he actually shrieked when she touched him there).  But basically it would just be to make him comfortable for a few more days. We'd talked about putting him to sleep last night after he'd refused food all day. He'd cry for it but only would eat maybe a mouthful and wouldn't drink at all. We think what was left of his thyroid (cats have two parts to their thyroid and usually they only take the more diseased side out) flared up again and we didn't think he'd survive surgery. His veins were so weak they couldn't even put a catherter in to put him to sleep. :(  They sedate first so the cat feels no pain. Eric and I said goodbye to him and now he's no longer in pain. Me, well that's another story.

The other three saw him leave the house but not return but I'm not sure if they've picked up on him being gone. It's not unusual for one of them to be gone for most of the day for grooming or tests or whatever. They do know that Eric and I are upset. So they've been hanging around. The younger 3 aren't as close to Gizmo as they are to each other but they were closer to him then they were to Robin so I think they'll miss him when it sinks in.

Goodbye my Sarah Jane
I said this on twitter and it works just as well here: "Elisabeth Sladen first appeared as Sarah Jane the year I was born & there she was, timeless, beautiful Sarah Jane until the end."
She was only 63 and looked far younger. Cancer. It takes people away far too young.  A fitting tribute to Lis Sladen's memory would be to contribute to a cancer charity. I don't think she'd mind which one. Someday maybe we can help stop other families from losing their loved ones too young.
My heart goes out to her husband and daughter and to her friends.
Rest in peace Elisabeth

It's sheepy but in the good adorable baby sheep kinda way:

TO ALL MY LJ FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS: Copy and Paste if you have enjoyed the blessing of meeting people online that you never would have met any other way. This is my end of the year shout out to the many "friends" I have never been in the same room with but who have inspired, amused, comforted, encouraged, and touched me in so many ways. I love you people! Here's to another year together!!
